"day of Saturn 22 Feb 20. A great Mad Painter practice for Sunday 8 March 20 The Jungle 10 pm, but tonight's spotlight on: Gee Julie and Natalia!!! working up good harmony vocals AND choreography....well, with one ex-Silver Star and one son of Silver, what DOES one expect?! For a "reward", I brought Gee Julie to El Potro Mexican Bar and Grille. It was National Margarita Day, so Ken and Gee Julie walked into Mexican St Patrick's Day. AND karaoke! Spanish love songs and a couple townie ladies singing "I Will Survive'; no walls built here! Though, all I can say en Espanol is "96 Tears", Gee Julie opted for "Besame Mucho". We had the whole crowd singing along (obviously Spanish words on wall; dad's Iberian penninsula DNA coming in WC handy!), then during "Macarena", some elder townie lady grabbed me and a Papi grabbed Julie! Opa without ouzo! Fuck these trendy ass hipster clubs; "when we drink shots, we're the only real people!!!!"....open til 0200!!! ".....

"Sunday 23 Feb 2020. Dan Lu whom I had met on Facebook through a German meet-up group has also started International Cultural Exchange (Boston). He goes to a restaurant to celebrate a holiday (Ken and Gee Julie missed Diwali!) but Carnival and Oliviera's steak house in Somerville came rollin' 'cross my newsfeed, so Gee Julie was "C'mon Let's Go"! Interesting mix of Europeans (photo) hailing from Zurich, Paris, South America, Athens....all dug classic rock, all young enuff to be my kids and all hopefully being part of those 15 people we need to draw at Jungle sunday 8 march 20! (one young lad saw Paul McCartney in URUGUAY! where Dad has a DNA match). It was $10 to go to what WAS Club Three for samba dancing, but through a comedy of errors, Gee Julie and i led the squad to Sally O'Brien's for Afropop! Next event is: MASLENITSA!!! sunday 22 march 20 "a sun festival, and an eastern slavic religous and folk holiday to celebrate end of winter/beginning of spring (damn sure sounds like a solstice to me)...Having eaten my way across the world ("Universal Garbage Disposal"!) it's at Cafe St-Petersburg in Newton Center; "come and keep your comrade warm"! (in Uruguay!) The ghost of my cuzzin Linda Garreau Highland is behind all this; she woulda loved it as much as Gee Julie!"...

Monntag 24 feb 20. I had binge-shopped a bag of cds at Armageddon records, harvard square, for all your punk/harcore/metal needs but for under $20 I got on cd, The Complete recordings, robert johnson. It was a box set but the info box missing; What i'm missing is the 1937 78s on Vocalion label but between two cds, you even get alternate takes! (I would be "So Vain" to compare Gizmos demos/rehersals gizmos double cd on Gulcher to this, but a cassette in the living room kindsa equals that 1930s 78 rpm sound). I'm preaching to the choir if you dont already know which caucasian "rock" bands covered what songs; including micelf, agin! "Get Back to where I once belong" : I had the 45 of Cream doing "Crossroads" about early 1969 played on my baby sister's close and play and then by 1971, i owned Stones Get your ya ya's out and heard "Love in vain" (even better from same tour, a bootleg I got same tyme Vince's record shoppe, Brockport NY: Liver than you ever be!). From Ya Ya's, I also copped "little queenie" to equal "that's cool" and on same said Gizmos demo/rehersal cd, i think I saw "play it like "Little Queenie" on Ya ya's! ok, enuff of a broken record, Clapton and Keef turnt me into R. Johnson, now I have two hours of fantastic Delta blues and the "crossroads" of route 104 and 19 OR 19 and 31, ESPECIALLY the lake Road my family been on since 1816 only points one to; The Bergen Swamp! (bergen NY). I would NEVER throw peekaboo over my shoulder at midnight at the Crossroads! I sold my soul to "the creature from the Bergen Swamp"!"....

"Til Tuesday 25 Feb 20. Going through a box of "did I buy this?" cassettes, i find America Indian Dhaba. a remix by baba Sengal. 1996. It is Linda Garreau Highland's fault she turned
me onto Bollywood! But 1996 we were lucky we had webtv! wikipedia as usual has the answer! baba Sengal "is an Indian rapper' (from India). He is considered to be the world's first hindi rap megastar"...stop by Punjhabi Dhaba in Inman Square, I MAY have heard him! "frequent airplay MTV India"....i can only imagine (back when I had the international channel on cable I saw Korean rap! This all pre-you tube)...First album was 1990, since then film, tv, etc. I shall certainly have fun at dinner googling and youtubing his films....an all-around entertainer!"......

She had taped Marcus Samuelsson dining with the Portuguese diaspora in massachusetts in No Passport Required (and I thought I had an original idea!). Boston. eater. com maps out Every Boston restaurant Marcus Samuelsson visits on "No Passport Required" (you can stream the episode here!). many I have been to! "Human Garage Disposal" world-wide! 0600 Pontoon palace, Breakfast of Champions dj John Bernhardt (WMBR) declared artist of the week to be: Tim Buckley! So Pontoon followed suit. Nice to drink Boston Groupie Coffee amongst Boston Groupie Cats and lissen to Tim Buckley before sunrise!".......

day of Thor 27 Feb 20. Dug out my 45 of the gentrys doing "Cinnamon Gurl" on Sun (1970). wikipedia says Jimmy Hart reformed the band in 1969, so it's a "heavier' version than 1965's "Keep on dancin'" (in other words; MY kinda music!). Looking at the Sun lp on discogs.com they seem to cover "why should i cry" (Steve Alaimo?), "Help me" and "rollin and tumblin'" (da blooze!) AND: "Stroll On"! as tired as Aeroshit is doin' "Train kept a rollin'" (it would make Bob Bitter!), aint nuthin' better than Southern bands doin' yardbirds covers revved up like nascar! "I Just got the news" written by singer Jimmy hart echoes the Strawberry Alarm Clock, meaning it sounds like pre-Allmans Hourglass (Liberty) which is how Ed King of Akarm Clock ended up joining Skynyrd (early Skynyrd covering every song on Hourglass abum). as for "cinammon girl", zeegrooves. blogspot. com says "Neil...had recorded "Cinammon Girl", but reprise hadnt released a 45. Seeing an opportunity, Gentrys recorded"....Jimmy tarbutton, who has quite a discography, did the solo on gentry's cover and it's Clapton-meets-country, which IS Southern rock! Let's not forget Neil's mother was a raglands, long Virginia pedigree, as in "southern grandad...better do what the Gud book says" (when the hell was Slade spellin' Neil lyrics?!?!). somethingelsereviews.com says "aiming to grab a piece of the market occupied by bands such as Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple and Mountain", meaning 14 year old ken Highland who "cannot get a gurl" and STILL lissenin' to that music....WONT! gentrys cover Cat Stevens "Wild World" also! Lastly, singer Jimmy Hart "found greater fame and success in pro wrestling as a manager "The Mouth of the South". he also composed music for The Wrestling Boot Squad, fronted by Hulk Highland! The story of the gentrys is described in book The Mouth of The South"....hey mach bell wrote a book too! "When the Music (Career)'s Over"; write a fuckin' book! "Idiot bastard Sun" Elvis and Colonel Parker. The gentrys. Great band!".....

"Friday on my mind. 28 Feb 20. Gee Julie works with a fellow in Chaco (the band; like them on facebook!); when Cal Cali did Dylan tribute at The Greek October last, Chaco was next door at Thunder Road! A co-worker of both ("I'm a comedian" when asked if he played; I'm BOTH!) LOVED "that punk-Dylan thing!" (man....).....So they are an interesting four-piece jam band whom swap instruments. They claim Phish and the Dead as influences (one fellow did favour Troy Anastasia; I was doing Pebbles covers in the Hopelessly Obscure when Phish began late '83 up in vermont...just a different kinda '60s, i guess...)...BUT what I heard most was FUNK! A lotta ninth chords, Cry- baby wah-wahs, broken low E bass strings, rapping or maybe rap-rock (labels are bullshit as is), a lot of high- hat...again, EVERYONE swapped instruments! But the last two songs (and place WAS packed!) had gee Julie's "colleague' Phillip Gehoff doing some wild Strat work echoing almost randy california and Spirit! Let me also mention the lone cover of Beatles "Taxman", another player REALLY hittin' hendrix-cum-red hot chili peppers Woodstock I AND II ninth chords, perfect harmonies, Trey Anastasio clone in red running suit playing bass, singing lead, Phil on drums maybe...ok,I dug 'em we'll do gigs and let's NOT forget my march gigs: Jungle sunday 8 march, mad painter 10 pm, kenne at 1045 pm and saturday 21 march midway with Tsunami of Sound, Andre the Giant poster and four pm set tyme! See y'all then!"...
