MarvelsWW.jpg - 123.05 K

I trekked out to Wistah, with the wonderful Judy Willburn to go to WAM (The Worcester Art Museum) for their Who Shot The Rock exhibition: excellent rock'n'roll photos from Elvis on up to The White Stripes. The first photo I see is one of Curt Cobain sitting on the floor crying after a gig...oh, poor Curt. But it sure did make for a striking photo. ...the one that really surprised me was a rich black & white of Jimi Hendrix playing guitar in Wilson Pickett's band!!! I never knew!! WOW!! And there was Johnny Cash "giving the finger" to the photographer at a San Quentin concert...oh and then Henry Rollins....trying to be tough and all angst and rebellion (like Johnny Cash REALLY was) in a staged photo of him punching the image of himself in a mirror MarstaffyWW.jpg - 85.54 K ...with fake blood running down his hand...there were also the photos of many album covers I have seen and purchased over the years: Led Zepplin, Traffic, The B-52's, Bow Wow Wow's great cover that is a re-staging of the Manet picnic painting, Bjork, The Beatles covers, lots! And there were some great old black & whites of Elvis, a pic of the Silver Beatles(!) a Johnny Rotten, a Clash, Marilyn Manson, ...all are gorgeous high quality prints of pics you have seen in the press over the years but there are also other ones you have not seen. Both are great to look at presented this way! All the photos have a little story/explanation next to them too so it's really a wonderful show and well worth the drive to Worcester! The show runs until May 20th and there are tons of events, lectures, classes all connected to this show!

After that it was straight to the Middle East UP....to see Tijuana Sweetheart, The Marvels and Dead Friends....the Marvels were the usual; FANTASTIC!! Fun, tight, high energy, great songs, my fave band ...really!
Tijuana Sweetheart is a band full of personality. The lead singer smiles and winks her way through some songs of woe that still seem to make you feel good. They made the set feel like a party.
Dead Friends had some sort of rap or hip hop thing going over the rock base. Strong players but not our genre. The first band Never Got Caught had a heavy sludge pounding at the bottom our their sound that created some powerful moments.

So what's coming up??? Well this very week...this very Tuesday....The Downbeat 5 are playing a RARE weeknight show at TT the Bear's Place , in honor of the "second coming" of The Right Ons. If you missed them last year, they brought the house down at the Lizard Lounge. Opening the night is a band that was selected for Sonicbids' "Road to Canadian Music Fest" tour, Hey Marseilles. So get on down and see this excellent show! Great combo of bands to bring the house down again this year!....
