The BGN News Archive

April 9, 2018

This week at Opus in Salem, John Keegan had the problem where he was playing in the band but covering the show. So, we have nothing on Club Linehan a Go Go which includes John, Kenne Higland, MJ Quirk, Al Hendry and Kevin Linehan. But we do have a video slideshow for the visuals and review of Evert and Thee Fightin’ Fish.
Click the photo below for the story.

And in other news....

Mars Records It’s Mars Records Third Anniversary. Marsman used to have a shop on Newbury St. He relocated to Plymouth. If you go to Plymouth go to Mars Records and buy some records!! He's at 58 Main Street.

Above the Basement podcast has a two part show interviewing David Minehan. (Listen here!) The interviewers, Chuck and Ron, only know David’s history by googling him which seemed odd probably only to us who have lived through it all. They are in the band The Butler Frogs! and they recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound. So, they have experience with David on that level. They get into some interesting subjects.

David says the new Neighborhoods record is mastered. They will shop it around and then release it one way or the other this summer.

Thrifties Thrifty’s Second Hand Stuff in Manchester, NH is closing. This place is full of instruments and plenty of vinyl. The prices are going to get cheaper every week until the final close on May 31. They have plans for the future at maybe a smaller place but scoop up the cheap stuff now while you can! They are at 1015 Candia Road Unit B.

Somebody stole Captain Sensible’s guitar! Read the story on Birmingham Mail. Well we know it wasn't Steve Jones, coz he doesn't do that anymore.

James Sullivan wrote up a nice piece on the Boys From Nowhere for the Globe on Thursday. You can read it here.

The Graneros have a new 5 E.P. release called “The Bull” ‘65. Seeing them live last February we got to love what they were doing. It’s often Matt’s voice that draws you in. They will put a song through tempo and volume changes to shake things up. The first song on the EP “Away She Goes” is representative. Check it out here.

Andrea Gillis Andrea Gillis, she of the amazing voice, has finished her new album. It was financed through PledgeMusic so those lucky people have that album now…and that would be us. It’s a genre jumping effort. Andrea puts her voice on top of fuzzed out guitars or slow graceful soul backdrops. She takes on “Jump Into the Fire” for six and half minutes. We can’t see the title but maybe that will be announced with the general release of the album.

Synopsis: "In 1970s London, a teenage boy who is into punk music gets involved with a tourist who wants to escape from her tour group and explore the dangerous suburb of Croydon." Check out the trailer here.

Joanie Lindstrom hit the road again this time to Florida, seeing Naples, St Petersburg and Vera Beach. The beaches, the sunsets, the record stores and donuts: we have it all right here.

Punk in the movies doesn’t work out most of the time. Now, there is a new movie called How To Talk to Girls at Parties. From the trailer it looks like they milk 1970’s era Punks looks and attitude for the laughs. The plot is Punk meets Aliens. It’s based on a short story by Neil Gaiman. Nicole Kidman is in the film but looks like not in a main role. The Trailer is below.
