Nervous Eaters
Two new Nervous Eaters songs

MORE NERVOUS EATERS! Glory be!! Two new songs are now out in preparation for the Rock and Roll Your Heart Away album on Wicked Cool Records.

“Don’t Need to Make You Mine” is sung by Adam Sherman and sounds like it was written by him. This is a chance to see how Adam is shaped by the group. The tempo is brisk and the guitar fill-ins at the beginning are up tempo too and tucked in tight. The melody line and how it swings and rides with the rhythm is pure Adam. Adam’s song in an Eaters arrangement – that’s a sweet combo!

“Someone Else In Your Arms,” which has Steve Cataldo singing, has the Nervous Eaters characteristics that are familiar to fans; slightly bluesy and some of those Steve Cataldo guitar fills we live for.

We’re living in the golden age for the Eaters. We struggled to get enough new music for so long. The music is now coming out regularly and is easily available.

There is a an obituary for Chris Parcellin online now if you would like to leave a memory or note. You can send flowers to the family or plant a tree for Chris from the page.

Ruffian Dick on Radio Boston

Ruffian Dick will be on Wave Radio Boston on May 9th at 8:30pm for an interview and a live set on The First Wave show.

Before that is the Who.iAm show at 5pm. That show also deals with local artists. Wave Radio Boston is a web based station that goes 24/7. They have been around since 2017.

Since The Noise ceased publication T Max has been living in the North Shore. He’s been doing solo shows and hosting acoustic shows in bars. Now he has a photo show going on at the Stetson Gallery at28 Mugford St. in Marblehead. The opening is May 5 from noon to 2 pm and will have a live set with T Max and John Hicks.

BOOKS......

Rebel Girl Another reminder that Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill has a book Rebel Girl coming out May 14.

There is a very good piece on her and the book in the New York Times.

When she was making a solo record at home she was being stalked and had to be sure no one was trying to break in the house. Her father was an alcoholic who packed a gun and punched holes in her bedroom wall. So much happened to her in her early punk days she has Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. There’s so many more incidents like those. She has exorcised some of her demons through punk but no one should go through what she did.

To start a whole Riot Grrrl movement through grass roots actions is so impressive. We admire her so much.

The book on Bookshop.org You can get The Riot Girl Collection on Kindle for a mere $2.99. It has a sampling of the original magazine, posters and printed matter.

RADIO......

On the Town with Mikey Dee had a live set by Shiverlane this week. They were all rehearsed because they just came off playing the Rock and Roll Rumble.

They began with “Aeroplane Driver” which is a fave of ours and did “I Get Nervous” which was the first song that got our attention. They're recording an eight track album with a (hopefully) late Spring/early Summer release. Many of the songs on this live recording will probably be on that album.

They ended the set with Redd Kross’s “Annie’s Gone.” In the interview after the set they talk about the Rumble experience.

To hear the whole show go to the WMFO schedule page. Hit the On The Town With Mikey Dee show on 9pm on Wednesday, then hit the ‘archive’ button.

The Shiverlane set is below.

PODCASTS.........

This week Blowing Smoke bring in Adam Sherman for a talk. Just his work in Private Lightning made Adam a Boston favorite. Then his solo work and now being a member of the Nervous Eaters is another body of work that elevates his career.

Adam is from Queens, NY. He soaked up rock'n'roll from Beatles through the all the sixties. He came to Boston when he was 17 to play music…not to go to college which is so common. Adam saw all the early punk bands at the Rat and elsewhere during the seventies. He scanned the Phoenix classified and saw that a band called Private Lighting needed a vocalist, so he went for it.

Adam has some real horror stories about the management of Private Lightning. Nothing seemed to go right for the band. Later he ended up in The Souls who had a big buzz for a while.

Adam gave up music and became an artist for a period. Then another life alerting event – he lost everything in a fire.

Adam covers a lot of territory and it’s very compelling.

The Elastic Glam Breakfast Show starts with the classic “Jeepster” this week.

Sethyspice followed it up with a nice find of Kid Kapichi from the UK. The group does not play cookie cutter rock. Over their album they shift styles. ”Can EU Hear Me” has a nice guitar crunch and hard playing. We have that song below. Check out the interesting album There Goes the Neighborhood on Bandcamp

Soon after that it was the new Smitt E Smitty and the Feztones song “Bye Bye Sunday Afternoon.” We review this song below in the New Music section.

New glam was represented by Violet Palms (real nice, from Wisconsin Bandcamp), Chappell Roan, and Gyasi (wow, from Nashville with live album soon).

Then some glam stalwarts with Slade, Roy Wizzard, Bowie, Roxy Music and Hello (New York Grove) to round things out.

Al Quint did some house cleaning on his Sonic Overload site. He changed web hosts so the site was down a few days. He changed the font size on his main page so it’s easier to see the song list. He also changed his embedded music. He went from four separate downloads to one big one. All good changes for us.

This week he scored a Didjits release on Record Store Day. He plays several cuts from that.

“Loud, Dumb and Mean” by the Night Marchers had the punk sound that we love.

“Fill in the Blanks” by Stiff Richards has a ripping punk/garage sound. Another Australian goodie.

Al played Ancient Filth a local hardcore group that's been together for a long while. The songs glom on to a subject and dig in and makes some provocative points. Al played “Monopolized Violence” but we are embedding “Legalize Suicide.” It reminds us of “Institutionalized” by Suicidal Tendencies.

There’s always some out of bounds songs on the podcast. This time there’s Captain Beefheart and Faust.

He ended with a punk set: Damned, Dead Boys, Chelsea, Soft Boys and locals The Molls.

You can hear the whole show on the Sonic Overload web page

NEW MUSIC/CDs......

Smitty and the Feztones Missing Link

Smitt E Smitty and the Feztones release a new song “Bye Bye Sunday Afternoon.” The twist for this tune is the lead vocals by Linda Pardee and not Smitty. The song is about a post gig come down and it does capture that feeling. Another convention broken is the violin solo instead of guitar. It’s a real aggressive and expressive solo too.

Missing Link on Triple B Records has a new album titled Watch Me Bleed. One song is pre-released now. “New York Minute” starts out like a regular hardcore song with sludge guitars and throat singing. But the singing changes a bit after a time and at the minute mark the band changes the beat and the song settles into a section that gets your attention. Then it switches back, just to change at the end yet again. It’s a nice piece of work. We’d love to have the lyrics to this.

Lambrini Girls Nunchukks Lolas

The Lambrini Girls are from Brighton…England, that is. They address current issues head on and unapologetically. Their latest single is “God’s Country” and “Body of Mine.” Both have vocals that remind us of Poly Styrene. “Body of Mine” is about unrealistic female body images. We love how it starts with the lyrics “who wears short shorts?” (“Short Shorts” by The Royal Teens) from the 1958 song. It vividly brings the whole issue to the fore for a rock fan. Time to change thinking? Overdue prove the Lambrini Girls.

This Nunchukka Superfly album was recorded in 1995, thus the title Nunchukka Superfly 95. It’s just being released now. This Australian group, with some members of The Hard Ons, have an attack that will knock your ears off. The album was recorded in one day! The average song time is two minutes.

We’re embedding “Jackets” below. “Bored Shitless” is another song of blasting goodness.

Check out the whole album on Bandcamp.

We have featured two glorious pop tunes from Alabama’s Lolas recently. Their latest song “Call Your Name” proves they can get downright garage-y too. They fuzz up the chorus and the drums get busy. Meanwhile the voices are still stellar.
