Rat folks, a regular who's who; DIS wuz my high school reunion
class of '77! Too much for me to REALLY Kerouac aboot, just lotsa
good folks Still alive and well; met some cool RECORD
COLLECTORS from Mystery Train records in Gloucester and
they have Gismos cd. saw Oedipus whom "broke"
the Gismos and O. Rex on WTBS back in '76 and John Felice,
whom was not only STILL great but got the Afrika Korps Live at
Cantones (Gulcher) 21 aug 77. More later as I Flashback! For now

Dave "Bugsy" Woods
|
day of Wodin 17 jan 2024. eddie Flowers of da Rockabilly
Yobs mention the passing of David Woods (already
in BGN) so I'll add some bits. 2014 was a East Coast Gizmo tour, maybe,
but Eddie and I were at a Real Kids show at Midway (drums: Randall
Lee Gibson IV,RIP). There's even a joint Real kids/GiZmos photo
equal to the John Felice/me/Rich Coffee cantone's 21 aug 77). So
"Bugsy" schlepped for Ace of Harte; i think he almost
offered me a Mr Airplane Man show in that Obama pre-Tump/pre-Covid/post-
Joe Vig era. Laslty, I know Prince had just bought the farm so 2016
(?) in Atlanta, punk fest, Real Kids headlne Friday, Gismos headline
Saturday. Both bands stay in the HIGHLAND Hotel, but Bugsy DID see
the Gismos saturday night so we gave him a tamburine and he joined
us for the free jazz of "Hey Beat Mon" (which begat Kenne
Highland's Air Force!). Through Facebook he listed a buncha airplane
mishaps flying atlanta back to western mass (he lived near Dino
Records, too). All around, he wuz good people,we will miss him BUT
his Spirit had a "line on you babe" saturday 13 Jan 2024
when I wuz hangin' backstage with John Felice. Missed in flesh,
here in spirit, ole "Bugsy""

Sonntag, Ides of January 2024, my distant cuzzin captain
beefheart birthday. "Lazin' on a Monday afternoon".
binge-watching Law and Order on POP. ok, the crime
was setting off flares in a crowded downstairs club (ok, "not
based on real events my ass", this was the station fire in
rhode island. So the washed-up rocker singer was portayed by....John
Doe of X! besides pretending to play bass, he also was
in Border Radio with Stenson Eddie Flowers
of Los Gismos! ok, that was my holiday excitement"

"day of Thor 18 Jan 2024. "Rain of death" (Broken
Jug version;from Bamberg!). Miss Lyn (we both descend from two of
Charlemagne's sons) inform me of de mise of Stanley Clark (on the right in photo);
I go: "oh the jazz bassist?"; ML: "no, our
stanley clark". I. M. fan of both. So let's see,
musta been 1977 and stanley clarke and Jeff Wilkinson (both RIP)
did those "Loretta"/"go get stuffed" Penniman
records, Spain, and what a band! unsure of bassist Rob Skene; heard
there was a sighting. There
was also a BGN interview from 1978: "we were a bunch of Nervous Eaters".
As Dino Corcetti sang: "memories are made of this"..

Freitag 19 Jan 2024. The Jungle, somerville,Mass. up first were
Azn Jujube (like
on Facebook!). notes: "mandolin backwards and trip-hop.
"Canto-pop live looping tracks", and two Captain easychord
quotes: kind of a soul gospel thing and that's some Happy the
Clown guitar feedback (which means Sisters of Mercy stealing from
side two of White Light/White Heat). Me: "a one man Suicide
(band)"; Suicide booed off stage january '78 opening for
Ramones/Runaways; now alta-kaka Rat rockas diggin' dis shit. Suicide
way da fock ahead of tyme. Galaxy Cake has been
billing themselves as "psychedelic" and again my notes:
""Pretty Song from Psych-Out"
(a flute thang by Strawberry alarm clock); a cover of Beatles
"why dont we do it in the road": "Blue Cheer guitar
(World of Distortion) and canned heat "goin' up the country"
flute" lastly some jangly Neats "Six" guitar, which
was Byrds redux in a '80s way, stollen by REM. To quote the Beatles
(more popluar thsan Jesus!) it was "A hard day's night"
coz "I'm so tired" but Rock Garden records
was there, they are signing folks up like it were Red on Red and
for a guy whom I met 13 March 82 at Cantone's, Hopelessly Obscure
and the Accidents back in the good ole days of the count booking
Cantones AND Ronald Reagan: Richard "Mensch"
Mirsky latest signing! i
gotta follow this label! But now gotta tune into WPAQ 740
Am mount airy NC for Joe Bussard (RIP) show playin' ole 78s of
hillbilly music....78s on a INDY label! Yee Hah!
