"numero uno: Miguel D'Amour, Hopelesly Obscure needs
a roommate! 617-470-7422.
saturday 3 feb 18, was lissenin' to radio BBC ulster
and question: WHAT song was #1 this week in 1969? no callers and i was stumped!
UK number one single 1 feb 69 for one week was.....fleetwood mac's "albatross"!
which the Beeb then played. so wikipedia is da bomb, yo and let's look at those
UK charts: previous, "ob-la-di, ob-la-da" by marmalade!
and bluidy fookin' 'ell! they were froom scootland sauld a MILLEN copies globally
by april 69 (first Gizmos DID sell a million, but.....and i do say that with
two t's!)...also, from wiki: "they appeared on BBC One's music programme
Top of the Pops to perform the track in KILTS!"they're
froom thuh east end of glasga; is that AC/DC before Oz, ah doon fookin' know....thar's
a Campbell in thuh bahnd! 'ope 'e wun't wearin' MacDonal tartan! a year later,
in Brockport NY I did hear their great Hollies sound-a-LIKE hit, "reflections
of me life". two weeks in future, "Blackberry way" by the Move
was UK number one 5 feb 69, wikipedia has ALL kindsa facts on that great 45
that never broke in the states and i had to hear an early '70s cassette copy
from Solomon Gruberger of O. Rex quality before I bought an import mailorder
to brockport NY somehow. Meanwhile, back in the states, you've got "albatross"
as number one and we have....."crimson and clover"! sure, Bubblegum
Music is the naked truth (and Kim Cooper is my facebook friend) but sometyme
later that year WCMF-FM would play "good times bad times" and december
69 WBBF-AM both fine Rochester stations would play the 45 version of 'whole
lotta love' (mono radio!)....it took Metal Mike Saunders dave
clark five article in Flash fanzine 1972 to make me
appreciate american, first Top 40!"......

"superbowl sunday (enjoy that Philly cheese steak!). there were TWO Indian
films playing the fenway cinema near olde Sears building, so no trip to Fresh
Pond circle for me! 1255 pm Humble Politician Nograj
was playing only ONCE and til 330 pm; there's a facebook page PLUS it was kinda
on tour so I got to see.....a Hopelessly Obscure Indian film! facebook,
wikipedia:
ALWAYS cite your sources, but in Kenglish, a vain, narcissistic, corrupt politician
(who DOESNT say America First!) gets into a down-and-dirty political battle
(you Yanks think it 'appens only in thih Staites; it's fookin' worldwide! listen
to Coast to Coast AM with George Noory! my fucken guru!) this
is versus a fair, pure, honest politician. There's a lot of over-the-top caricature
of "yes-men" and as for your Humble Politician; imagine Borat trying
to get votes but SO OBVIOUS. What DOES stick in my mind? trying to get votes
in India's slums and one lady wont even LOOK at Humble Politician...and he keeps
going "hello....hello.....slum lady.....will you vote for me?"....imagine
if ANY of our presidents went to da 'Hood or da Woods (Appalachia!). SO this
is a good review from me and Turkish food and Turkish coffee after at a Turkish
place washington street, brookline (Anatolia
). I truly am bad, I'm Gizmos World Tour wide!".......

"Ulster Groupie News: saturday last, 3 feb, whilst Miss Lyn and i were
at Phoenix landing, was some "cracking entertainment" at Clanree Hotel,
Letterkenny, donegal for 79 pounds. 60s weekend it was with the Tornados and
the Fourmost! Tornados have only one original member but nice to hear "telstar"
on radio ulster; entrance theme for the Korps in Kaiser Stadium, Teaneck NJ!
a caller phoned in "is Clem Cattini still in the band?" before Blowfish
reads wikipedia, 'e
quit in '65 'e did. heard also the Fourmost wi' "hello little girl",
a 1957 Lennon composition which has same Buddy Holly chords kinda like the Korps
"talk to me karen". (proof that they ALL stole from us! sunday 11
feb 77, 41 years of the Korps! after i had Ken Kaiser join O. Rex or were they
afrika korps already?).....lookin' at notes on me facebook wall, this morn,
day of Wodin 7 feb 18, hopelessly obscure bassist Jim Condon woulda been 58
IF, they opened with the Move's "Flowers in the Rain"! a caller calls
in and it's aboot LSD....this was BEFORE brekkie! Sean Coyle's show this all
is 0530-0700 our tyme but 1030-1200 in ulster.
one wee last bit; besides brunch at the Burren yesterday waiting to 'ave me
eyes checked (and it's aye t' me eyes, a gud thing!), an' lissenin' to ulster-cum-apple-achia
music, i knew of KilKENNY but ne'er oov Letterkenny, Donegal. So turns out there's
a HIGHLAND RADIO thar AND.....THE MUFF LIQUOR COMPANY!
Irish potato craft gin....and the lerks: "have Muff cocktail on the rocks"....a
new meanin', it 'tis! Justin tyme fer Saint Paidrag's day!"......

Did ice stop Clann Henderson-ago-go from pracitcing on this day of Wodin? NAY!
the Scots-Irish combo of MJ Quirk/Joe Quinn, me and fill-in
drummer Al Hendry, clann Henderson AND he played in Bob
Cenci's Battle Green at Billy Ruane memorial 2010
(?) had a "pub-rock" sound last night (though I still wanna do "loo-rock"!).
since "my baby thrives on I-IV-V", quite a bit of Chuck Berry covers
for MJ Quirk Cantab birthday gig saturday 8 pm, so you've already missed it,
losers! I'm still "stuck at home with my Beatles and my Stones" so
Blowfish WILL be glad to know my two NEW songs to sing are "around and
round" (Al's berklee jazzbo degree put to good work with the AAG/AAG, then
IV and V solo in middle; he can play like Charlie Watts but during the "swing"
section he was "Stompin' at the SAVOY"!); me other toon, my old 7th
grade copy of Beatles VI: 'dizzy miss lizzy"! MJ Quirk nailed that two
noye lead and Joe Quinn learnt a I-IV-V! (I know what Solomon Gruberger WOULD
have said/thought but he's fucken dead, so tuff shit!). other "possibles":
on Jim Condon's 58IF birthday, MJ Quirk blew my fucken mind with "candy
says"! (third velvets album; a Lou song i did NOT know! though, same album,
I taught Metal Mike SAUNDERS "I'M SET FREE" and he covered it on some
Angry Samoans album). other "joke" since I am, at 284 versus 250 pounds
"BIGGER THAN ELVIS", an almost hardcore version of "Burning Love"
as done by Hopelessly Obscure august '85 perhaps opening for children of paradise.
the joke is i'll get out, front the band and shake leg and belly; can I get a
rhinestone jumpsuit please? I saw plenty at Graceland when Reverend Al Green's
wife drove me there sunday 13 sept 98, but being 35 pounds heavier'n elvis when
he died, they WONT FIT! maybe Jackie Gleason has a three piece suit i can borrow....and
AWAY WE GO!"....
"just to reiterate: friday 16 feb 18, Ken Mike and Matt 11 pm
sally o'brien's jittery jack first then stop calling me frank, thanks
for goig guys! a "my head's in '73" cover set that Blowfish NEEDS
to hear! (ESPECIALLY the Grand Funk covers!".....

"what better way to celebrate MJ Quirk's 13 times four birthday than with
the start of the TEN DAY sci-fi marathon at somerville theater?
especially the 24 hour marathon; there's a
facebook page from which my "winner by elimination" is: I
MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE! the sci-fi marathon; as old
as the Gizmos! (feb/march '76!".....
