saturday 5 may 18, Kentucky Derby watched at flann
o'brien's, brigham circle. 59 to one odds on Noble Indy,
ridden by Florent Geroux, but as it was Justify won. In 1977 Solomon
Gruberger bet on Highland Wedding, that being before 20 aug 77;
wonder how that one paid off? I should research these horses and
pedigrees. So besides the ramones in 1976, Patricia
Ragan, who sings on Music to Kill By
writes on me facebook wall: "Promises Fulfilled! great bloodlines"
THEN Marvin Nunley, Royal Guardsmen writes "the
derby on cinco de mayo? i cant decide whether to have a margarita
or a mint julep!!!" so, already shittin' micelf like GG
Allin, my 1966 influence: Snoopy and my 1976 punk-rock
influence, Patricia, go back and forth on "have 'em both",
"Might be a potent mixture" etc. I chime in about Royal
Guardsmen at Panther's Den, teen club, Brockport NY and mister nunley:
"been quite a while since i was up your way!" (though
Mark Farner comin' soon, $5, Hilton Ny state fair!). Lastly "thank
you very much for being a loyal fan!" The Korps, of course,
having grandfathers that fought AGAINST the Kaiser....either way,
that nice lil note from a band i been a fiddy year fan of damn sho'
won MY race! New Year's Day allston mass, maybe '87, Harold
Madison Jr. sang ray charles "one mint julep"
to me at seven stars restaurant. Breakfast with
Mister Butch! both ray charles fans".....

sunday 8 may 18, Ken and Gee Julie at Burren,
davis square for REBETOPAREA (like
them on facebook!) here is my musical theory and tell me this
aint hillbilly or "race' records: "musical folklore
of underclass"...."late 19th century to first half of
20th century"....So these Greeks, in AMERIKA, FIRST and a
bit more mavro or hillbilly coulda been leadbelly/robert johnson/carter
family/hank williams AND recorded on 78! The leader of this seven
piece (GIZMOS!) band was very scholarly, maybe as old as the 78s
themselves, this popou, but there also was censorship starting
in 1936....and i thought Bo Carter's "please warm my weiner"
or "she wants the kielbasa" needed PRMC ratings! (not
to mention Zappa or mentors!). But again, Leadbelly comes to mind:
ramblin'/gamblin' men, honky tonk wimmen etc. opium dens too i've
read. lineup was three bousokis acrost front (i think), acoustic
bass and guitar and three multi-instrumental ladies; one on accordion,
another on violin and both played glass thimbles for percussion
(they need Miss Lyn-opolous!). everybody took turns singing in
Greek of course. Lastly, Gee Julie was happier'n
a pig in skata talkin' to a table of popous about the lil village
her grandparents was from, which she's been to...Kenne, as Xeni,
didnt say skata for a change! (Celts did invade Greece tho, read
it in a french history magazine....well, I can read a fucken map
and Les Celts of course with invading arrows on map!) ("filter
in mouth"). (sic). In all, people like Miss Lyn should have
went and Gee Julie and i gonna be following these folks like Deadheads!
one chord progression was the G to F in "over under sideways
down"...you wont believe how many Yardbirds licks COULD be
played on bousouki! "let me hear your balailaiks ringing
out!""....

sunday 6 may 18 before rebetika at burren, took
a Dudley bus which parked on edge of harvard Square's may Faire;
turns out I missed an awesome klezmer band! Ezekiel's Wheels klezmer
band (like
them on facebook), Gee Julie LIKES this! Kenne on the MTA
to Davis Square and the macCheaper bargain than fiddle player
from Solas at Burren was a $7 before 6 pm film at Somerville Theater.
"winner by elimination"; Isle of Dogs
and Miss Lyn LIKES anthromorphic animation (Yes! You can't
beat Paddinton 1&2 but tongiht I'm watching Peter Rabbit On
Demand- been waitin' for it!!-ed.) . Plenty of ethnic groups
been herded off to reservations/concentration camps/ghettos et
al. but the "minority" majority is....DOGS! fucken cats
take over too...lotsa Doctor Evil-type bad guys but 12 year old
son of prime minister looks for his banished dog. Lotsa good human
humour coming outta dog's mouth (I wont spoil it!) and Yoko
Ono as Dr. Yoko Ono is excellent! also there's a "kampei"
toast which equals cheers/prost/salut etc. AND in soundtrack is
a WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND song and i thought i knew
EVERY Hopelessly Obscure '60s song/band....How far would $7 got
me drinkin' fake beer to kill a couple hours?! So, in end, yes
i would see them movie again, even with cat-lovin' Miss Lyn!"....

Day of Wodin! 9 march 18, a club linehan-ago-go
practice for the Jody Moore set sunday

hangs out" off Pisces/Aquarius etc. I do a "Bang a Gong"
type lick so my sister should be happy: Marc Bolan And THE mONKEES?
I SHOULD facebook her about this. also, my mother and sister wuz
to the Granite Rail, Quincy (club linehan: THIS friday
18 may 18 granite street cafe quincy!) and they Highland/Quirk
back up Jody Moore on "circle sky"; she got the Head
soundtrack for her tenth birthday and as we lissened, our John
Keegan and I agreed the opening riff was Bo Diddley via
Doug macDonald! i didnt catch Head movie til '80s harvard
square and by '90, Jody URBATI had it on VHS
and i passed out on her Quincy couch; Zappa leading a cow! so
lotsa good rock comin' up but being "A hard day's Night",
I fell asleep during Motels "total control"! proving
once again i know these Jody covers in my sleep! (hahahaha!) Keith
Richards coudnt have nodded out better! what the fuuuuuccckkkkk!
and lastly, bassist Joe Quinn gave my "Built
for comfort" ass a ride home and in Gizmos news: "Kenne,
I heard "Gimme Back my foreskin" on spotify and "I
Laffed Out Loud" (actually that was Eddie Flowers 1976 reaction),
But Anyhow, to quote Teagaerden and Van Winkle)....Gizmos on spotify...Today
Spotify, Tomorrow the Vorld!"....

Fado Night sunset cafe restaurant and lounge sat 12 may
18 6 pm. Portugese food and fado is portugese rembetika equal kinda
to Spain's flamenco....Gee Julie and I world music geeks so rest
of y'all: do your fecken homework! sunday 13 may 18, burren, davis
square, back room, 4 pm, as read about in irish paper at flann o'brian
during Ken's tuckey derby: Randall
Bays and John Coyne, with Owen Bays and Rory Coyne "among
the best irish fiddlers of his generation". No relation to
Kevin
Coyne (RIP) of whom Sting and Rotten are fans and somehow
through a record trade (8452 ridge road, brockport NY!) I did get
couple of Kevin's albums; great bluesy voice, check him out AND
the irish fiddlin' Coyne! and Fado!".....
