saturday 11 may 2024. Crow Follow wuz playin'
Somerville porchfest 4-6 pm aldersley street so
i got there 1700 or so. They were on a HIGH LAND playin' to the
Heavy Mental park. i snuck up on Ramona (Wild Stares)
who wuz keepin' tyme like a mofo on snare and tom ala RaMOna Tucker,
velvet underrground. I sez "dont tell Tim Sprague I'm
here" in me irish whispher.
Timmy starts in a neo-"Smokestack Lightnin" riff in
E: "no setlist, it's like jazz,mon"-Blob marley; and
I began with "how many more years" channelin' Chester
Burnett and my distant cuzzin Don van Vliet, only Crow Follow
wuz da Magic Band! (Zoot Horn Keegan!). This long-ass raveup (in
E!) went to "how many more tymes" (gave 'em a bit o'
Percy)/"radar Love" and one other toon which I forget
(senior moment!). Engine Judy axed up me also
for background vocals on a couple originals where I did my best
to channel Merry Clayton on "Gimme Shelter". After dat
it wuz da Jungle for Captain Easychord/Captain and Schmiel.
koverin' "welcome back kotter"/jeff beck "hi ho
silver lining"/"it dont come easy" and those "catchy
singable pop" Captain songs. Nightcap was me/captain/Lt
Larry Newman USMC knoshing outside at Macchu Picchu;
the push me/pull you's were side against da wall and a table of
folks said "hey Crow Follows! you were excellent!" (hard
to be humble when you know you da best") though, not to be
the Fifht Beatle, I DID say "hey i wuz only sittin' in"....either
way "saturday Night's allright for eatin'!"

Sonntag 12 may 2024. Miss Lyn rented da Big Star
movie and is excellent! for me, footage of da fanzine convention
in memphis in '73 starring Big Star was fantastic coz i actually
met them dudes! Metal Mike Saunders pre-Angry Samoans
in Afro (met him FINALLY channel '83); jon tiven
(New haven rock press/august '74 HE sent my fanzine da Big star
album);Pete Tomlinson (Nix on Pix) met him 31
dec 73 Kiss opens for Stooges NYC RIGHT after Eugene Klein sets
hair on fire BEFORE he signs Kiss album: "dear Ken; eat shit,
gene simmons");met Lester Bangs summer '80 plugging Blondie
book harvard square; R. Meltzer did liner notes for first three
Gismos e.p.s and lastly met Alex Chilton in Richmond Good Friday
'95,got autograph. IF I never left Brockport NY NONE of this woulda
ever happen. 1972-3 Big Star: DARLINGS of da Tragically Hip fanzine
writers, couldn't get arrested by John Q. Public. "today's
kidz wouldnt know good music today if it came up and bit 'em on
da ass"-Frank Zappa, life magazine '68.....well it's true!

Dienstag 14 may 2024. Solo flight at vera's
for the
people's karaoke though during SUPPER I warmed up wid Sam
Cooke and Bill Withers "Lovely day". After some young
lady did a Hillary Duff karaoke kover,I sang Stevie Wonder's "I
was made to love her" but I really do sing more Southern soul
than Northern soul; insert "lovin' you has been my fiasco"
(on stanton park! PO Box 58 Newton mass) vocal to Stevie's words
and you get the idea BUT "Surprise Surprise" folks dug
it! You'd think I'd sang with Crow Follows on saturday or something!
well, at least it was "early to bed/early to rise", healthy/wealthy
and ah aint no dumb ass!

jammin' Oldies; vintage '70s r and b ala The Time Tunnel
on WILD on saturdays and/or djs at the sugar shack til 1976 OR even
Miss Lyn dancin' at the Other Side. Proto/pre-disco/pre-Saturday
night fever etc. SO much good stuff and even Hopelessly Obscure!
304 pm today: Skip Mahoney and the Casuals "and
it's love" preceded by Crown Heights Affair-
"dreamin' a dream"; ; the kinda stuff Vince Aletti wrote
about in Crawdaddy back in '73!".....

Caribbean-British murder mystery; a sunny change of pace! opening
theme is "you're wondering now" by Coxsone Dodd;
wikipedia sez "influential Jamaican record producer in development
of ska and reggae in '50s/'60s and beyond. "you're wondering
now" was a 1964 hit by andy and joe in jamaica and later covered
by Specials et al.No wonder I heard a Paragons song as background
music! (hint; my ska knowledge,mon, came from WMBR's Generoso whom
had a ska show that i usedta win Brattle tickets from; nice guy,too,mon!
took trips to Jamaica to pick up 45s on de Treasure Island label;
agin to going to Bloomington to pick up Gismos records....mebbe
me still stoned from 30 Nov 75 wid Toots Hibbert and "nuthin'
be real 'n' nutin' to be hung about,mon"!".....

at warehouse XI AND at Vera's DJ Panda,90s night.

tuesday 29 may da people's karaoke at vera's, captain easychords
wid beatles "it's gettin' better" vs. Kaptain Ken and
Marvin Gaye via da Rolling Boulders wid "cani get a witness".
Last night Mad Painter practice; ya gotta hear
da reggae version of "afternoon delight",mon!
