February 18, 2013

As Blowfish said before "this is where we fail you..." yeah sorry, we holed up in our houses again this weekend…being farts…but hey there are SO many awesome shows coming up and we're gearing up to get out!!

This Thursday Feb 22nd at TT's The Young Adults and one of my faves The Suicide Dolls

On Friday (2/22) there's a great hardcore punk show at The Middle East Up with Brunt Of It, The Blue Bloods, Dead Friends, A Common Goal and Penalty Kill be ready for lots o' moshing and audience members horning in on the mike.

OI, OI, OI!!! this coming Saturday Feb 23rd there's great show at The Middle East down with The Cockney Rejects, The Youth Brigade and Dan Webb and The Spiders who kick off their spring tour to Europe with this show.

Also on the 23rd Cradle To the Grave is at Radio up!!

Thursday 2/28 Adja The Turkish Queen is doing a solo show at The Midway...

OK so we're now into March and during the month of March Thalia Zedek, one of Boston's musical geniuses, is doing a residency at TT's every Monday. There's an album theme running through this residency too...each show Thalia (and the other bands) perform a particular album in its entirety. Thalia goes on at 10:15 each night

Here's a list of the shows and they are killer:

Monday March 4: TZ Band does "Been Here and Gone" (this was her first solo release after Come -Year: 1991), Drew Dougherty does "Start"

Monday March 11: TZ Band does "Trust Not Those in Who Without Some Touch of Madness" (Thalia's 2nd solo release- Year: 2004) William Grant Conspiracy does "Paper Covers Stone".

Monday March 18: TZ Band repeats last week. And this night has a special guest: Chris Brokaw doing "Incredible Love"

Monday March 25: TZ Band does "Via" - (This is Thalia's NEW CD to be released in March!! And you can pre-order it here: Thrill Jockey) So Also on the bill Brokeback.

OK so other shows in March: March 1st there's the Billy Joel Night at Radio OK that's a trip back in time I may not want to take...but check out the line-ups for the evening...definitely makes it worth showing up:
Heart Attack Ack Ack Ack: featuring Julie Two Times, Kevin Pickering, Josh Pickering, Mel Lederman. Only The Bad Die Old featuring Baker, Brookhouse, Lynch from Dirty Truckers, John Sheeran from Township, Linda Shore from Muck and the Mires, and Alan Levesque then there's The Brinkleys: featuring Kerri-Ann Richard, Jay Frigoletto, Anngelle Wood, Paul Gallo, Mark Dantini, and Seager Tennis and The Root Beer Raggers: featuring members of the Alrighters and the Larkin Brigade.

March 2 there's a great afternoon punk show at The Midway with The Welch Boys, The F.U.'s, Blastmat, Redline Rebels and Trashkillers

And up on the North shore on March 2nd: GREAT show from Terry Brenner!! The Nervous Eaters and The Darlings are at the Spotlight Tavern in Beverly

Its that Irish/Punk mix night at The Middle East on Wednesday March 6th with The Tossers - on their 20th Anniversary Tour with special guests Continental ( Rick Barton ex- Outlets, Dropkick Murphys and his son Stephen) and The Gobshites - who I don't think have played in Boston in a while.

March 9th at 2PM Genya Raven is being interviewed on WMFO's (91.5) A Crash Course for Ravers with DJ Brain Young and Mike Stewart. Show starts at 1PM.

And Bob Colby's got a good one on his Second Thursday at The Rosebud on March 14th with Classic Ruins, Corin Ashley and Moose and the Mudbugs ....we hear shows are booked into April at The Rosebud but after that we don't' know what's up.

Saturday March 16th there's The Swaggerin' Growlers at the Middle East Up with The Old Edison, Threes Away (touring from Austin), OC45 and The Wolf Hongos

Saturday 3/23 Walter Sickert and His Army of Broken Toys are at the Brighton Music Hall...always makes for an interesting night!

Saturday March 30 we got electro music by some of Boston's best with Adventure Set (Ken Scales) , Workforce (Michael Abbot/James Straight), and DJ Ike at The Middle East Up.

Mark your calendars guys coz the big night's a comin': April 6th we celebrate JAY ALLEN'S 50TH BIRTHDAY!!! At Radio with 10 bands ...Of course the Archcriminals will play...also on the bill The Dogmatics, Much & The Mires, The Bristols, The Dirty Truckers, The Other Girls, Underball and even Quest for Tuna....I'm looking forward to wishing Jay a very happy birthday!! And this party is now a benefit coz Jay is such as an awesome...all the proceeds after expenses will be split between two of Jay's favorite charities: Smile Train www.smiletrain.org and The Jimmy Fund.

And before you head out to Radio....spend some time in the afternoon listening to the Rick Harte Interview at 2PM (show starts at 1) on WMFO's (91.5) A Crash Course for Ravers. And April 12th is Mary Lou Lord performance and interview!!

And I'm listing this coz the Ruins don't play all that much anymore and coz Kim Ackland needs to know well in advance about any 360's show!! ...so at The Middle East Up on Friday May 12th are The 360's, Classic Ruins and Terrible Beauty...time to get out the old calendar and mark it for that one too!

And for our collector friends out there Eric Law let us in on the Joey Ramone's Record Collection auction! Bids are up well over two thousand bucks but hey, they're Joey's!!!

And if you are curious about a band playing out one of the best resources out there is Boston Bloghead. Just check out their podcasts....they got it all my friends....

One of our favorite people Jan Collins has an article in the Globe about her by the Pulitzer Prize winning art critic Sabastian Smee. It tells some of her story but she's got a BIG story so it's not all by any means. Boston Globe article on Jan Collins

Talk about big stories, Thundertrain and their story is bigger than life but somehow they fit it onto film. They did a documentary a while back and now you can see it via YouTube...Thunertrain Documentary.
