Prime Movers with Thee Sonomatics

The Burren, Somerville, MA

Sept. 14, 2024

Thee Sonomatics don't come out too often. This, coupled with their surfin' in Dorchester Bay garage sound, made them a perfect primer for the Prime Movers. Gotta love a show where the audience has a pent-up need to see the bands.

This happened at the Prime Movers show at the Burren in Somerville. The band hadn't played a show in years. Their last, 2006 disc, is stuffed with Boston Garage rock shoulda, woulda, coulda beens. For these songs to see the low light of a Friday night club gig was just what they needed.

Prime Movers kicked the show off with the ripped title track "Back in Line" from the aforementioned disk. It is a fantastic forgotten lost local slab that gathered grit and sweat live. These guys have a lineage that would cause ancestry.com to crash.

For Cam Ackland (emphatic V and H), Dick Tate (on coupe de Gtr and background V), Dennis McCarthy (sending subliminal signals on Drums), and Greg Steinbaugh (on smooth, slippery, Bass) it was a chance to remind people of what they missed. The full-boat crowd was on board for a singalong dance cruise. They tied the night up with some big-time covers of "Shake Some Action", "Midnight to Six" and "I Got a Line on You".

Come back for a visit anytime. Count it in prime - 2,3,... 2,3,5,7!
