The Schizophonics have been building up a local following
for the past couple of years. They didn't disappoint upstairs at the Middle
East. They filled the room with people, sweat, and swagger on what is usually
a quiet Monday night.

Pat, and wife Lety, Beers
are the dynamic duo behind the biff, bam and boom. They wear their musical affections
on their sleeves - Jimi psychedelic swirl, protopunk Detroit swagger, and James
Brown sweat and pulled groin soul.

Pat barks and roars on both vocals and guitar. His body flails across the stage
and back again and again. He looks like Flopsy the rag doll from Captain Kangaroo
if he found punk and a shitload of adderall. His body is like a forth instrument.
A slap-dash rhythm guitarist who plays the seldom seen in the wild Contortionist
AllLimb. It demands your attention and has it's own slashing patterns and rhythms.

Chelsea Curve and Muck and the Mires (I missed
both) had loosened up the crowd. Everone was all in and it gave the room a rockin',
basement bash energy. Half the set came from the ripped, new Hoof It disk.
Train Kept a Rollin' is a good cover for a Boston crowd, many of whom probably
came to the tune via Aerosmith.
Truth be told, things got a little schticky and familiar by the very end of
the set. That quibble aside, it was a Monday night to remember.
