Well social media served its purpose when I saw Al Quint post
on Instagram that he was DJ'ing Thursday (9/21) at the Lily Pad for
the Vintage Crop show, all the way from Melbourne. Also on
the bill were locals Landowner whose name I knew but had never
seen them. Got to the Lilypad a bit too early, cute space, had never seen a
band there before.
Landowner were more than a pleasant surprise, like seeing
a band off the Mutant Pop/Fast Product comp from WAY back in the day. Mesmerizing
and catchy, good stuff.
Vintage Crop did a quick set change and banged right into
it. We got to see/hear their first song in the US. They've got somewhat of a
typical Aussie sound, the accents come through, they quickly go from one song
to another and best of all were engaging on "stage."
No ladies t-shirts to be had alas, I gave them shit about that (and told them
to yell at Civic for skipping Boston, like everyone does lately).
Really good guys and they were happy with the show, but would have been nice
to pack the place. Maybe I'll be able to say "I saw them when" like
with Amyl.
